Annual Tree Blessing & Lighting in South Buffalo

Tree Lightng

South Buffalo Alive cosponsored with the South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce the Tree Blessing and Lighting, as well as Christmas in the Park, on Saturday, December 5th, 2009. It was a magical moment for everyone in attendance.

The tree, located at Abbott and Potters Road, is special because it was planted in memory of a gentleman whose business was located on Abbott Road 25 years ago, Karns Florist. Bob Krantz, a local businessman, helped plant the tree and was very touched as he watched and listened to the local grammar schools perform.

Ambrose Academy, under the leadership of Lynn Reczabek, sang and signed (in ASL) “Silent Night.” The Discovery School, directed by Maureen Myers, performed their version of “O Christmas Tree,” and Notre Dame Academy, led by Grace Jackson, performed the beautiful Christmas carol “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

As the children continued to sing, waiting for Santa to arrive, he complied by coming on a City of Buffalo Fire Truck from the Hollywood Station House and he could be heard saying “Ho Ho Ho” from down the street. Santa worked the crowd, inviting them to follow him to the Cazenovia Resource Room where he had a conversation with hundreds of excited boys and girls. Pizza, cocoa, cider, and homemade cookies, donated by generous businesses in South Buffalo, were on the menu for the night.
